In the light of the impending enlargement of the EU, import quotas for bananas are to be revised. The volumes involved will be based on historical imports into the new member states. The precise amounts will be determined in due course based on the current licensing mechanisms. Some 17% of quantities are to be reserved for operators who historically have not imported bananas while 83% will go to traditional importers.
