Cassava, Maize and Sorghum value chains/Cameroon - Think of Quality

It is expected that by 2019 Cameroon will witness significant transformation in food crops.

It is expected that by 2019 Cameroon will witness significant transformation in food crops. The major focus is on cassava, maize and sorghum which are to be cultivated in larger quantity. This was outline in the Agricultural Investment and Market-driven Project (AIMDP), which is a 5 year project established early this year. The project aims at developing three chains (cassava, maize and sorghum) and boost their competitiveness through tripling productivity per hectare. The project which will benefit 120,000 small farmers aims to improve the quality of sorghum, maize and cassava through developing a scheme of standard high-yielding and disease-resistant seeds in the country. The importance of the seed scheme is to improve farm inputs to small farmers while boosting their crop quantity produced. The project also focuses at organizing farmers into cooperatives through which they can make direct contracts with agro-businesses who have already shown willingness to purchase locally.
