14 May 2015
HarvestPlus Nigeria is part of the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) coordinated by CIAT and IFPRI. HarvestPlus program has presented improved vitamin A cassava stems to over 3,000 farmers in Akwa-Ibom and Delta communities for planting and multiplication. The initiative is supported in partnership with Human Empowerment and Development Project (HEMADEP) and Positive Influence Global Resources Foundation in Akwa-Ibom and Delta States. The target of the initiative is to reach more than 700,000 farmers involved in Vitamin A cassava value chain across the country. At ensuring value chain inclusiveness, the initiative aims at building capacity by training women and youth in cassava producing communities mostly smallholder farmers. The training will boost smallholder farmer’s knowledge on agriculture as business, with a view to increasing their scale and yield while lowering their cost of production.
