EU producers raise concerns over increased imports
13 August 2007
A press release from Canary Islands banana producers has expressed concerns about increased banana imports from Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Cameroon. The organisation is arguing against the granting of duty-free, quota-free access to ACP banana exporters under the proposed EPAs.
Editorial comment
In recent meetings of member states Commissioner Mandelson has successfully resisted French and Spanish efforts to remove bananas from the duty free-quota free provisions of the market-access offer to the ACP. This issue appears to be being laid to rest.
