About Agritrade

Welcome to Agritrade - CTA's web portal on international agricultural trade issues in the context of ACP -EU relations.

Agritrade aims to serve and to be utilised by ACP stakeholders including officials in the trade and agriculture Ministries as well as interested parties in the independent sector. In the context of developments in international agricultural trade, the Centre is seeking to:

  • create or heighten awareness of the critical issues, deadlines and the fora of discussions;
  • provide information on developments pertinent to the ACP -EU negotiations, related developments in the WTO;
  • facilitate the dissemination of this information, its analysis and the exchange of views on such analysis and its implications;
  • establish and maintain a platform for the exchange of ideas and formulation of proposals by ACP states and stakeholders with an interest in the negotiation of the agreements and in the outcome of those negotiations.

Agritrade covers the following thematic issues:

  • Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs);
  • Reform of the EU Common Agriucltural Policy (CAP) and its implications on ACP countries;
  • WTO Agreement on Agriculture;
  • Market Access;
  • Food safety (Sanitary and PhytoSanitary measures);
  • Commodities (Sugar, Rice, Beef, Banana, Cotton, Cereals, Oilseeds, Fruit and vegetables, Tea, Coffee, Cocoa).
  • ACP-EU fisheries relations:
  • Market Access (Tariff and Non Tariff Aspects);
  • ACP-EU Fisheries relations (including Fisheries Partnership Agreements - FPAs);
  • WTO Aspects of ACP-EU Fisheries relations;
  • EU Common Fisheries Policy Reform.

Agritrade provides the following products:

  • A monthly news update on agricultural trade issues and a bi-monthly one on fisheries, which both provide with a detailed review of the last developments on the main issues including short editorial comments and analysis focusing on the ACP perspective;
  • A fortnightly news alert including extended comments on hot topics;
  • Executive/ Policy briefs on key issues (see above);
  • Discussion papers;
  • Calendar of events listing the major meetings, conferences, seminars on the current negotiations;
  • Guide to electronic and internet information sources;
  • Electronic Discussions.
