SKIL news update

20 June 2005

World sugar prices could be improving, with rising oil prices likely to stimulate Brazilian ethanol production to the limits of current installed capacity, and drought threatening to reduce the central-South region?s crop, according to the April 2005 SKIL sugar-sector review. It also reports on:

  • the final sugar crop in St Kitts & Nevis;
  • Swaziland’s request for Cuban assistance in sugar-sector restructuring;
  • the emergence of another new artificial sweetener.
