Angola to end beef imports

11 May 2015

Currently, Angola spends US$500 million to import 100,000 tons of beef but this may be about to change. Minister Afonso Pedro Canga, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development speaking at a meeting with producers on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the establishment of the Cooperative of Southern Angola Cattle Breeders (CCGSA), said that the money spent on imports was a very large sum, “a situation that should be changed urgently.” He said the approved project aims to increase domestic production of quality beef in order to meet the growing needs of the population, starting with support to farmers and agricultural and livestock business-owners who have properly structured farms and are able to supply animals to slaughterhouses. The Cattle Breeders Cooperative of Southern Angola (CCGSA) currently has 64 members, throughout the provinces of Huíla, Namibe, Cunene, Benguela, Huambo and Kwanza Sul.
