In order to reduce hunger and boost food and nutrition security, supporting smallholder farmers at increasing their productivity and inclusiveness in agricultural value chain is essential. Noticing smallholder famers crucial role in grain production, the World Bank issued a grant of about $100 Mio and $45 Mio from USAID to the Ghanaian government. The country’s Food and Agriculture Minister was quoted as saying that the government would use the grant to develop the rice value chain in order to boost rice production and reduce imports.
